Look first at the main motif of the yellow taoist talisman paper with red calligraphy. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

Consider the orientation and border when choosing a frame or a place to keep the piece. A close-up of script shows the design more clearly than it shows scale. Use the listed dimensions where available rather than estimating them from a photograph.
