Dragon and Thunder-Seal Taoist Plaque

A dragon coils across the grain-patterned face. Large pale raised strokes fill the dark border on the companion side.

Sold individually.

Look first at the outline and relief of the dragon and thunder-seal plaque. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

For display, decide which face you want to read from a little distance. Deep relief and narrow incised lines catch side light differently; leave room around the outline rather than pressing the face against another object.
