Taoist Fan and Coin Display Ornament

The fan-shaped ornament has a scalloped feather-like edge. A red circular coin motif sits near the handle.

Look first at the main motif of the fan and coin display ornament. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

The shape is easiest to compare by looking at the outer edge and the design near the handle. Distinguish a fan-shaped display piece from a usable folding fan; the outline alone does not establish that the object opens.
