Raised Seal Taoist Plaque with an Irregular Golden Edge

A red-brown seal stands in relief against a rectangular surface. Dark recesses define its strokes, while an irregular patch of yellow follows the upper edge.

Sold individually.

Look first at the outline and relief of the raised seal plaque with an irregular golden edge. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

For display, decide which face you want to read from a little distance. Deep relief and narrow incised lines catch side light differently; leave room around the outline rather than pressing the face against another object.
