Chinese Zodiac Compatibility: Tables and Birth Dates
By HeKaiqiang | Buddhabelief Team · December 21, 2025
Chinese zodiac compatibility tables describe selected traditional relationships between animal signs, not how well two people will communicate or whether a relationship will succeed. To use a table carefully, first find each person's birth animal with the correct year boundary, then read the named category in its cultural context.
A useful result explains its method. It should not turn a date into a compatibility percentage, decide whether you should separate, or make a purchase seem necessary. The tables below are the specific set used in our pairing tool; they do not claim to include every school or every traditional relationship.

First check both birth dates
Our pairing lookup assigns animals using Lunar New Year, not January 1 or Li Chun. February 9, 2024 is Rabbit in that method, while February 10 is Dragon. Looking only at “2024” would miss the difference.
Check your dates with the Chinese Zodiac Calculator. People born near the beginning of the year should confirm the complete date before comparing their signs.

Three harmonies: San He
San He groups three signs together. If two different signs belong to one group, our tool reports that named relationship. The group is not a score and does not establish an automatic advantage in friendship, work or marriage.
- Monkey, Rat and Dragon
- Snake, Rooster and Ox
- Tiger, Horse and Dog
- Pig, Rabbit and Goat
Six combinations: Liu He
The six pairs in this table are Rat–Ox, Tiger–Pig, Rabbit–Dog, Dragon–Rooster, Snake–Monkey and Horse–Goat. A pair receives its traditional label even though the two people may have very different values, habits and circumstances.
Those real differences are worth talking about directly: how you handle disagreement, share responsibilities and respect each other's boundaries. An animal pair cannot answer those questions on your behalf.
Six clashes and six harms
| Six clashes: Liu Chong | Six harms: Liu Hai |
|---|---|
| Rat–Horse | Rat–Goat |
| Ox–Goat | Ox–Horse |
| Tiger–Monkey | Tiger–Snake |
| Rabbit–Rooster | Rabbit–Dragon |
| Dragon–Dog | Monkey–Pig |
| Snake–Pig | Rooster–Dog |
“Clash” and “harm” are names within these tables, not evidence that one person is dangerous, unsuitable or destined to hurt another. Do not use them to pressure a partner, exclude a colleague or diagnose a relationship.
What “same sign” and “no listed pairing” mean
Our tool lists two people with the same animal separately as Same sign. It does not infer that they have the same personality. Two birthdays twelve years apart can share an animal while belonging to different annual stems.
No listed pairing means that the combination does not match one of these selected categories. It is not a negative verdict or a complete survey of all traditional systems. Reversing the order of two people does not change the table relationship.
Keep annual readings and other methods separate
A birth-sign pairing differs from a year's Tai Sui observances. Kua uses a different calculation and, in our tool, a Li Chun boundary. BaZi involves more than the annual animal. Combining the names of several systems does not create a more reliable prediction.
The Fortune Tools centre explains the available methods. Use the Kua Number Calculator only if you want that distinct personal-trigram calculation, not to overrule a conversation about your relationship.
Symbols as a personal choice
If two people want matching or related jewelry, start with their preferred designs, sizes and comfort. They can choose a shared motif without claiming it repairs a clash. Guardian-figure associations have their own traditions and are not proof of an animal-to-product match; the exact image and material still need identification.
A thoughtful gift can express affection. It need not claim to prevent conflict, guarantee loyalty or change someone's feelings. The useful part of reading a table together is the conversation it opens, not an obligation it creates.
Pairing questions
Does a clash mean we should not be together?
No. It is a category in a traditional animal table, not a finding about your conduct, safety or relationship outcome. Make relationship decisions using the actual circumstances and appropriate support.
Can two people with the same sign be compatible?
The same animal tells you only that they share that calendar category. It cannot decide whether they communicate well or share values.
Why does another website give a different result?
Compare the birthday boundary, the table categories and the system being used. A different school may include relationships that this selected set does not list.
How to read a Chinese zodiac compatibility calculator result

- Check both birth animals. Use the complete birth dates and the same calendar boundary for both people. Start with the Chinese zodiac calculator if either birthday falls near the beginning of a year.
- Read the category, not an imagined percentage. The named table relationship is the result to interpret. A traditional category does not establish a measured probability of romantic success.
- Keep the relationship itself in view. Communication, consent, shared expectations and how people treat each other cannot be inferred from their birth animals.
Can you use the same chart for friendship?
You can compare the same animal categories as a cultural exercise, but that does not make the chart a validated friendship test. Use it as a conversation prompt rather than a reason to trust, avoid or judge someone.
What if no pairing is listed?
A missing pairing means that the selected categories shown here do not label that combination. It is not a hidden negative result and does not need a purchase or ritual to correct it.
