Taoist Wen Zhe Horse-Year Figure Card

A detailed multicolor figure fills the rectangular card. The alternate face uses a red ground, a circular emblem and fine writing.

Look first at the main motif of the wen zhe horse-year figure card. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

Consider the orientation and border when choosing a frame or a place to keep the piece. A close-up of script shows the design more clearly than it shows scale. Use the listed dimensions where available rather than estimating them from a photograph.
