Dao Character Relief Taoist Plaque

A large raised Dao character occupies most of the face, framed by scrolling lines. Several smaller inscriptions fit within the narrower panel on the reverse.

Sold individually.

Look first at the outline and relief of the dao character relief plaque. Its place in the Daojing collection reflects the use of ornament and inscription to carry a personal intention. Choose the particular design that speaks to the occasion, rather than assuming every motif has the same devotional use.

For display, decide which face you want to read from a little distance. Deep relief and narrow incised lines catch side light differently; leave room around the outline rather than pressing the face against another object.
