Our story
Buddhabelief began in 1989 as a single shop in Lhasa — not as a brand, but as a keeper of the objects local believers and pilgrims relied on every day. We sold prayer beads, pendants and thangkas long before anyone imagined shipping them across the world.
One keeper, one pace
To this day, one person in Lhasa sources the material, oversees the knotting, arranges the consecration and checks every order before it ships. Write to us and a real person in Tibet reads it. This is why we stay deliberately small — the moment the work is handed to a faceless team or a machine, the thing that makes it ours is gone.
Made the real way, in the real place
Our malas are hand-knotted from bodhi seed, sandalwood and bone. Our thangkas are stitched in silk and gold thread over weeks by artisans trained in a lineage far older than any shop. Nothing is mass-produced, and we never invent an origin to justify a price: if a piece was made in a Lhasa workshop, we say so; if a stone is Hetian nephrite, it is graded bead by bead.
Consecrated before it travels
Every piece in our sacred tiers is blessed in the Tibetan tradition — many at Sera Monastery — before it leaves Tibet. It is done quietly, the way it has always been done, never as a line added to a product page.
