Copper is a reddish metal used in jewelry and decorative objects. It may be worked on its own or appear as an element of an alloy; the exact composition of a product should be stated separately. Freshly polished copper has a warm color and gradually develops a patina with air, moisture and handling. It can also leave temporary discoloration on skin, which should not be interpreted as a health effect.
Choosing your piece
Check whether the piece is solid copper, an alloy, plated or coated. Consider weight, edge finishing and skin sensitivity. A warm metallic color does not identify the composition of every component.
Care notes
Wipe dry after wear and avoid chlorine and abrasive cleaners. Preserve intentional patina unless the maker recommends polishing; acidic cleaning methods can harm adjoining stones, coatings or cords.
