Jadeite is one of the two mineral materials traditionally called jade. Its interlocking crystalline structure gives it notable toughness, while color, translucency and texture determine much of its visual character. Jadeite is not only green: white, lavender and other colors also occur. Mottling and uneven color distribution can make a bead appear softly clouded rather than uniformly colored.

Choosing your piece

For an important purchase, ask about identity, dyeing, bleaching and polymer impregnation. A jadeite label or a green photograph does not establish untreated status; rely on the listing and an appropriate laboratory report where supplied.

Care notes

Protect the polish from abrasives and impact. Use a soft damp cloth; avoid steam, ultrasonic cleaning and strong chemicals when treatment history is unknown.
